Dutch Fluyt

The Du
tch Fluyt is a type of ship which was built during the late 16th and 17th centuries. Long and narrow, its purpose was carrying as much cargo as possible. Often sent to the East Indies to gather spices, voyages were lengthy and often lead to high death tolls among the crew. The expensive and exotic cargo also made this ship a desirable target for pirates and often had to double as a warship.

Type reads, "So clear and blue / I'm so in love with you / But you'll drown me" (Atlas Sound), a reference to the beautiful and intriguing qualities of the sea, and sea travel, which have an underlying danger.
